These are trying times, with some of us isolated for weeks at a time and others practising "social distancing". All group activities are now frowned upon, so I am cancelling our monthly litter picks until further notice. It is the initial gathering of volunteers that is the problem, not the actual litter picking, which can easily be a solo endeavour.
If anyone who is not "locked down" would like to get out for some fresh air and fancies doing a litter pick at the same time, I am happy to let you borrow some pickers and hi viz vests and can provide plastic bags. Just contact me (01606 74587) and I can leave them in our front porch for you to collect. No need for any human contact. You can return them to the porch when you have finished. I'm afraid you will have to dispose of the collected rubbish yourself, either in the litter bins around the village or in your black wheelie bins.
Other solo activities that you can do to help keep our village looking smart include sweeping the pavements and gutters in front of our properties. After months of wind and rain they certainly need doing. And think of the exercise.
So, keep your distance and stay safe. Hopefully things will get back to normal before too long.
