Hartford Population

Various documents give population figures for the village although it has to be borne in mind that boundaries have changed over the years and direct comparisons are not always possible. Acreage figures have been given where available and are shown against their nearest population date.

For instance, not surprisingly, the west end of the present village (including Sandiway Cottage and Sandiway House) were once part of Sandiway, which in turn was a hamlet in the township of Weaverham, having no real separate existence in the directories.

Also in 1894, by Local Government Board Order No.31,609 part of Hartford civil parish was added to Northwich civil parish. It is also noticeable that Kelly's figures seem low and to break the trend of a rising population. We will try to verify their figures from the census data.
